Sci Lesson 27/6

Today was the first day of school after the June Holidays. For science lesson, our teacher gave us a rough sketch of what are we going to do in this term and the topics we are going to cover. As this is the first day, our teacher decided to start off with something easy --- drawing. We start on the topic "Reflection" today and were taught how to draw rays on regular and irregular surfaces. Some of the things we learnt include: the angle i must always be similar to angle r, the normal line is always perpendicular to the surface and to differentiate the different rays using straight lines and dashes etc.
I find this lesson rather easy to understand and follow. The teacher is also very clear about the instructions. As we had already know the dates for our assignments and test, and it's still the first day of school where there is not much homework, I think it's good to make use of this time to plan ahead, especially when the online lessons are fully-independent. I will also read up ahead before actually attending science classes to prepare myself. This term will be stressful as there's alot of holidays and we have to really be independent and manage our own learning. My plan for this term is to finish my assignments as soon as possible (with effort too) and clarify my doubts once i'm done with my assignments. For online lesson, I will do the worksheets twice a week. As for the holidays, I will make full use of the time to revise the subjects tested. I have not done up to my expectations last term, and since today marks the start of a new term, let's start all over again and do my best for this term!!!

Learning Trail @ Macritchie

After our Term 2 test, we went for a learning trail at Macritchie. The trip there really helped me gained alot of knowledge.
As there's time limitation, we could only spot the forest reserve, the reservoir, bandstand, kayak lanes, amenities centre and fishing area. When we reach the reservoir, we learnt how to test for the water quality by looking at different aspects like colour, temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen.
We also learnt how do the water management facilities work. As we walked along, we saw some human activities like kayaking, fishing, running/jogging. Our teacher then told us to analysis their activities and come out with a conclusion about the activities' impact on the environment. We had a deeper understanding towards the effect and consequences brought about by our daily activities to the environment and animals around us.
I think this field trip is a very good exposure for us, especially when we were busy with schoolwork everyday. It's a good opportunity to learn and know about the environment around us and to enjoy the flora and fauna. This is also a very good preparation before we start learning the topic "Ecology". As we would rarely have any experiments regarding this topic, it's good to go and witnessed the plant and animal population in the reservoir too. Overall, I find this fieldtrip very meaningful and I would definitely attend if there's more in the future.

Reflection on my Term 2 test

For my Term 2 test, I had deproved from Term 1. I realised it's because I had become more ignorant since my Term 1's good results. As such, I did not focus as much and therefore, I deproved.
After looking at my test paper, I found my weak points. I am weak in practical quesitons, for example, asking you to form a chemical equation. I'm not as flexible and thus, I lost marks at this type of questions. However, practice makes perfect, therefore, I had tried out the practical questions in the textbook and also the practical worksheets.
For the MCQ, I tend to misunderstood the questions. For example, the alphabet 'S' in the compound XS stands for Sulphur, and i had misinterpret it to be just an unknown matter. I approach this matter byt he same way above, by practising and getting use to certain type of questions that may come out in the future. The June Holiday is also a very good time to practise and revise for Term 3.

Reflection on my Term 1 test

For my Term 1 test, I passed the test with flying colours and I'm very satisfied with it. The factors that contribute to my success were little but yet important.
For last year, I did not really scored well in my science test, therefore for this year, I had paid really close attention to the teacher and cleared all my doubts. In the past, i had always asked my friends for clarification. However, for this year, I stayed back to ask the teacher personally for more assurance.
I had also exercise "Think Win-Win" by sharing knowledge with my friends and exchanging notes. That way, we could learnt from each other and benefit.
However, I realises that for my Term 1 test, I tend to focus alot more on memorising and predicting the questions. I missed out all the small details like spelling etc. As such, my marks were lost through all these small details, for example, roman numerals instead of numbers.
